The short brief of LAA Expo in East Malaysia. (Since 2001).
East Malaysia itself is a growth market for the agriculture, livestock and fishery & aquaculture .Sabah. Sarawak .Labuan ,combined of population ( 6.5 million ) ,with the majority of the population engaged in agriculture ,livestock ,fishery and cocoa ,coffee ,palm oil sectors.
B.I.M.P – Eaga Regions. Fastest Expanding Economic
B.I.M.P.-Eaga –East Asia Growths Areas is a grouping of regions within Asean that share with Brunei. Sabah. Sarawak .Indonesia -Kalimantan and Philippines –Mindanao and Cebu, a common geographical and social-economic background represents one of the fastest expanding economics in the region and fast moving towards mechanization across all sectors.
The Second edition of LAA (Livestock & Poultry .Aquaculture and Agriculture) event was held in Sabah Kota Kinabalu, after Kuala Lumpur in 1999. Following the past (10) years LAA (2001 – 2011) are in various venues in Sarawak. Sabah and Philippines – Cebu & Davao as a yearly road show. The event served as a farming technologies education for farmers and new farmers, showcase the latest agriculture products and farming equipment, as well as trade and business development platform for buyers and sellers to meet.
Livestock. Aquaculture. Agriculture , will continue to be an important economic sector in Malaysia .In fact Malaysia is now an exporter of its agriculture – (vegetables and fruits ) ,poultry and aquaculture products to Asia countries .In order to fulfill the local demand on food and related products .smart investment should be put in the state-of-the –art technology while cutting labor cost. As such the 12th Edition -LAA 2021 SABAH .Co-located with Agro food + Durian and Fruits expo 2021 is timely return to Sabah serve as one stop trade platform for B.I.P.M –Eaga Region for farmers , growers ,planter s ,breeders ,food processers ,importers to meet new and old manufacturers ,suppliers and to view the latest development systems in technology and technique in relation to Livestock . Aquaculture and Agriculture strive for the highest standard in term of quality, hygiene, increased in efficiency.
Agriculture Sabah.
Agriculture is a major Sector of Sabah’s economy after timber and forest industry in 1995, palm oil contributed 20% to the total exports of Sabah, which worked out to be approximately RM.2, 125.1 million
In 1997. 43,730 hectares of land was planter Cocoa. Rubber plantation accounted for 2,615 hectares .Rice is the staple diet of Malaysian. 42.623 hectares was under paddy which produces 69,732 tons of rice for local consumption.
In 2010 to 2017 Sabah agriculture sector contributed 24% to the State’s GDP, the highest contributed after its services sector, including tourism which contributes 40 per cent. In 2018. Half of millions of the state’s 1.5 million labor force (38%) were involved in the agriculture sector under lying the important of the industry to Sabah state.
(2021 -2030) Sabah Agriculture Blue Print.
Sabah agriculture blue print 2021-2030 (10) years with plans to double the agriculture, livestock and fishery sectors contribution to the GDP to 40% by 2030. Include increasing the revenue in seaweed farming from RM 44 million in 2017 to RM 1.84 million in 2030. Cage fishing farming from RM 238 million to RM 3.56 billion. Fresh milk productivities from RM. 1.4 billion to RM 7 billion and Padi yield from 30% to 60%.
The focus will be crops such as musang king durian , coconut ,honey pineapple, pomelo, mushroom , cabbage ,coffee honey, rubber , padi , bird’s nest ,seaweed .fish and shrimp farming .
Prospect for Fruits and Mushroom, Vegetables.
Based on the average of 3.5 percent growth per annum of fruit production in the past 5 years, fruit production in Sabah is forecasted to increase to 265,875 tons by 2024 .For vegetables, based on the trend projection of 1.2 percent growth per annual, production is expected to increase from 41,698 tons in 2013 to 47,495 tons by 2024.
Prospect for other Economic Crops.
The prospect for other crops, which include coconut, coffee, maize, sago, sugarcane, floriculture, apiculture and specialty natural products remain high. Sabah is now an importer of maize (RM 112 million), sugar (80 million) and coffee (RM 34 million).
